Letter: Same old story in Congress

It’s the same old story. For instance, there will be no cost-of-living raises for seniors and disabled because the price of gas has gone way down, so no inflation. Thanks, Congress. You have known for decades that the way you measure inflation for the purpose of COLA raises to the Social Security/Social Security Disability Insurance funds is bogus.

This year, for instance, home prices have zoomed 3.9 percent. How about food? It’s probably pretty hard to think about these things on a full steak lunch in the Congressional cafeteria. And while you are digesting that lunch and complaining about Montana going ahead with expanding Medicaid, shame on you. Montana is trying to help their poor.

In the meantime, our Congress has freed up cash for the Iraqi government in increases of $500 million at a time, with almost no accountability on the Iraqi side. And whose Congress recently rejected installing anti-corruption laws? So help yourself, government of Iraq.

If this were the early 1700s, Americans would know what to do with such a government.
