Letter: Renew advocacy for nuclear energy

The news is now filled with the international meetings about global warming.

Very few people are talking about the obvious way to create electricity without burning carbon. According to a recent news article, France gets 75 percent of its electricity from nuclear energy and ranks 50th out of all countries in carbon emissions.

When the advocates of solving global warming finally recognize the major role for nuclear energy as France has done for years, then I will think they are finally serious about solving the problem. Yes, there is a role for solar and wind but there is a big role for nuclear energy if you want to solve global warming.

For those, as I used to be, so concerned about a radiation release from a nuclear energy plant, I have not heard of one from France yet. They can place the new plants as far from population centers as technically feasible, and remember, a few mishaps that affect only some people is better than global warming that affects all people.
