Letter: Project invests in local economy

As a member of the Northwest Carpenters Union, and a longtime resident of Clark County, I am pleased that the Draft Environmental Impact Study for the Vancouver Energy project has been released. This step marks a major milestone toward what I, and many other skilled craft workers, hope to be approval of this important project.

My union has joined many other construction trade unions in endorsing the Vancouver Energy project. This project will create hundreds of construction projects during the build, and hundreds more upon completion. By utilizing the highest skilled craftsmen and craftswomen in the region, Vancouver Energy has made a wise choice in trusting we can build the project safely, with the utmost professionalism expected from professional builders. This project will also invest in local infrastructure, and boost our local economy. It is a win-win for all involved.

The draft EIS shows this project to have a minor impact, and those with potential to be more significant can be mitigated or have very low probability of occurring. The vast majority of us rely on petroleum for our roads, our vehicles, and countless other means. Shouldn’t we rely less on foreign petroleum for our needs?

Let’s build this, and build it right.
