Letter: Help the homeless

Imagine what would happen if everything you owned was snatched from your hands, leaving you with nothing. There are over 23,000 people who are homeless on any given night in Washington state. This is a number that is increasing.

Homeless people cannot remain on the streets due to the lack of safety, and it is just against humanity. Regardless of what the issue may be for those being homeless, a wake-up call is needed for those who do not see this problem as an issue. People not having a roof to cover their head is a problem. The homeless people are stranded on the streets, which is clearly not safe. As a community, it is our first priority to not only care about our own safe being, but as well as others. Last, but not least, we must take this seriously and find a deliberate solution.

The temporary tents are not a solution. Vancouver City Council needs to find a much more cost-effective, and constitutional, approach to help the homeless. Humanity has sank below enough. It is time to stop watching homeless people suffer day in and day out. Let’s all be a part of the solution, not the problem.
