PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Police say a 28-year-old Portland man shoplifted designer handbags, watches and perfume, stealing nearly $50,000 worth of products between June and November.

The Oregonian reports (http://bit.ly/1O8pCGF ) that the man told police he repeatedly stole from Macy’s, Champs Sports, Nordstrom and Abbot & Rinehart Jewelers to pay for his heroin addiction.

The affidavit says the man used bolt cutters to clip security cables on a Gucci backpack and also high-end handbags. He’s also accused of smashing a glass display case at Abbot & Rinehart and stealing two Rolex watches.

Court papers also say the man ran away from a Champs Sports store with a pair of $190 sneakers he was trying on. They say the man dropped his cellphone as he ran and police used the phone to call his cousin, who identified the 28-year-old.
