A Vancouver man who allegedly fired multiple shots in the Harney Heights neighborhood, prompting SWAT units to respond early Saturday morning, made a first appearance Monday in Clark County Superior Court.

Demetrius A. Diamond, 22, appeared to face allegations of felony harassment, aiming or discharging a firearm, first-degree assault, possession of a stolen firearm, second-degree malicious mischief and second-degree reckless endangerment, according to court documents.

A resident called 911 shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday to report hearing shots fired in the 4000 block of East 14th Street. The caller also reported hearing a male screaming and someone yelling, “Please, stop,” according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Superior Court.

Upon arrival, officers found a Honda parked on 14th Street with all of the windows broken out of it. They later determined it belonged to Eddie Lopez, a man who previously lived at Diamond’s residence, 4001 E. 14th St., the affidavit said.

No one was injured.

Dispatch advised police of previous call history at Diamond’s residence and that he owns firearms.

A witness, Tiauna Kannas, told police she had been at a neighboring residence, 3909 E. 14th St., with Diamond. He had been drinking earlier in the night, she said, and started to get upset about a recent news story involving an Oklahoma police officer who was convicted of raping 13 black women, court records said.

Diamond reportedly worked himself into a rage, Kannas said, and made references to shooting people, including Kannas. She said she became scared and left, according to court documents.

Court records indicate that Diamond was house-sitting at the residence at 3909 E. 14th St.

Officers then called out to anyone inside Diamond’s residence at 4001 E. 14th St. and his mother came outside and was interviewed. She gave a similar account of her son becoming upset over the news story. She said she heard Diamond outside yelling loudly at Lopez, who still lives in the area, court documents said.

Diamond’s mother said she saw her son pacing around the driveway carrying a handgun. She said she tried to calm him down but he became more agitated, so she went inside and locked the door. She then heard multiple gunshots, court records said.

Lopez told police he had come home from work and saw Diamond in the driveway. He said Diamond began yelling at him, unprovoked. Lopez said he heard several shots and Diamond threatening to kill him, according to the affidavit. He went to a nearby house, he said, and locked himself inside with the tenants.

SWAT units found Diamond inside 3909 E. 14th St. and surrounded the front door. He was taken into custody unarmed. Police later found a stolen, loaded handgun on the floor of the residence and a stolen AR-15-style Smith & Wesson rifle on the couch, court documents said.

Investigators found several bullet holes and shell casings in the area.

On Monday, Judge Scott Collier appointed an attorney for Diamond and set bail at $100,000, court records show.

Diamond will be arraigned Dec. 31.
