Salmon Creek — Four Fire District 6 firefighters stood outside Chuck’s Produce in full gear for five hours last week as a crowd watched, but they weren’t battling a fire. Instead, Scott Squires, Andrew Hodson, Rich Renney and Chris Bottomley took turns using a StairMaster, as did Assistant Chief Shawn Newberry, who made a surprise visit to the event. The four men raised $533 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. They used a StairMaster because they are also training for the Big Climb, a charity event in which participants run up 69 flights of stairs — 1,311 steps — in the Columbia Center in Seattle to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The Seattle event is March 22.
