NEW YORK — Common says despite winning a Golden Globe and earning an Oscar nomination, he’s still looking forward to the Grammy Awards on Sunday.

The rap star is nominated for two honors, including best rap album for his 10th effort, “Nobody’s Smiling.”

“I am very grateful to get Grammy nominations,” he said. “It’s incredible for me. And that album is important.”

Common will perform his song “Glory,” from the film “Selma,” with John Legend at the Grammys. The song is nominated for best original song at the Feb. 22 Academy Awards. Common also appeared in the film.

Common said the release of “Selma” comes at a perfect time, adding that he’s thrilled to see rappers take a stance against injustice in the wake of the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo.

“Not just through songs, but you see artists starting to be more active in general. You hear about artists contributing finances or showing up. … Artists are showing they care,” he said. “And it’s important, because we have this platform. I applaud that. I am happy the hip-hop culture has been about that.”

Common is also nominated for best rap/sung collaboration for “Blak Majik” with R&B singer Jhene Aiko. He is already the owner of two Grammy Awards: best rap performance by a duo or group for “Southside” with Kanye West and best R&B song for “Love of My Life (An Ode to Hip Hop)” with Erykah Badu.
