Lower Columbia sweeps Clark hoop teams

A layup by Lower Columbia’s Taylor Drey with 1.3 seconds to play lifted the Red Devils to an 80-78 win over Clark in an NWAC West division men’s basketball game Saturday at the O’Connell Center.

Clark (14-7, 7-3 West) had a 51-39 halftime lead after shooting 54.3 percent from the field to LCC’s 35.3 percent.

However the shooting touch changed ends and LCC made 52 percent of its shots in the second half to Clark’s 34.5 percent.

LCC led 78-76 when Clark’s Bryan Berg tied it with 9.5 seconds to play.

Drey then got the winning basket on a layup.

Clark’s Evan Garrison led all scorers with 27 points on 10-of-19 shooting, and he also had seven assists.

Berg added 16 points, and Orlando Vance had 10 rebounds.

Ryan Lee led LCC (16-8, 8-3) with 24 points and Drey had 22.

WOMEN: Clark lost its third game in row, while LCC won its 11th consecutive contest as the Red Devils won 58-52.

The game was tied at halftime, 31-31.

Caylee Newsom led Clark with 24 points, making six 3-pointers. Alexa Orcutt had 12 points and Michaela Bitanga 10 points and seven assists.

Donniesha Webber led LCC (18-7, 11-0) with 18 points.
