An off-duty Portland police officer was arrested on allegations of domestic violence Tuesday in La Center, according to Portland police.

Bradley McIntyre, a 17-year veteran of the agency, was arrested on suspicion of fourth-degree domestic violence assault.

A woman was driving McIntyre home from a casino Tuesday night because he was intoxicated and couldn’t drive himself, according to documents filed in Clark County District Court. While she was driving, he grabbed the steering wheel from her, forcing her to drive off the road, and punched her in the side of the head several times, the documents say.

She stopped near Northeast 379th Street and 109th Avenue, and got out of the vehicle to call a friend for help. A passing motorist also called 911 about the incident.

McIntyre was taken to the friend’s house. A Clark County Sheriff’s deputy interviewed everyone involved and arrested McIntyre. On route to the Clark County Jail, -McIntyre said the woman initiated the altercation and struck him first, according to court documents.

McIntyre, 48, works in the agency’s forensic evidence division as a criminalist, which is a sworn officer position, Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson said.

Portland police said they learned of the incident Wednesday. McIntyre has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the ongoing investigation and internal review, police said.
