A Vancouver teen has been arrested in connection with a gang-related armed robbery last month at an east Vancouver convenience store.

Cuahutemoc “Temo” Hernandez, 17, appeared in Clark County Superior Court on Friday on suspicion of first-degree robbery with a deadly weapon.

Hernandez was automatically remanded to adult court due to the seriousness of the allegations.

The robbery occurred just before 4 a.m. Jan. 11 at Amity Market, 2517 N.E. Andresen Road.

According to court records, three males with partial face coverings were involved the robbery. One of them pointed a gun at the clerk, while Hernandez allegedly took items from the store. Surveillance footage showed that one of the suspects had a rattail hair style, which is similar to how Hernandez styles his hair, court papers say.

Hernandez admitted to police investigators that he was present at the robbery but said he was just “along for the ride,” Vancouver police Detective Tim Martin wrote in a court affidavit.

In an unrelated incident after the robbery, rival gang members shot Hernandez in the shoulder. Due to unexplained “conflicts” in both criminal cases, Hernandez was not immediately arrested and then could not immediately be located after he went to stay in Aberdeen, Martin wrote.

Judge Robert Lewis held Hernandez in the Clark County Jail in lieu of $175,000 bail and appointed Vancouver law firm Grecco Downs to defend him.

His next court hearing, during which his lawyers may request reconsideration of the bail amount, is set for Tuesday.
