Letter: Disheartened by irresponsibility

I went to Park Hill Cemetery to visit and clean my parents’ grave. I wasn’t very happy to see dog feces all over their headstone. After I cleaned up the site, I went to the maintenance office and asked if the dogs could be excluded from the cemetery.

I’m told that the city considers this cemetery a public space and dogs (leashed) are allowed in the park. I questioned how a cemetery could be considered a park as there are dead people here.

Why is it some pet owners are responsible with their animals and others seem to think there’s nothing they or their pet can do wrong? The maintenance staff said they are weary to approach the pet owners who are not following the rules because of the verbal and sometimes physical abuse they receive from the pet owners.

How would you feel to have dogs defecate on your loved one’s grave?

So I got a plan: Why don’t we bury our dead in the designated dog parks?
