CAMAS — Trevor Jasinsky played like a team leader all game, and Camas’ sophomore starter got a double-double.

Yes, this was the Papermakers’ night.

All night.

The Papermakers outscored Evergreen by 17 points in the first quarter and never looked back in a 65-52 victory Wednesday in the semifinals of the Class 4A District 4 boys basketball tournament.

Jasinsky had 23 points and nine rebounds, and sophomore Jake Hansel went for 13 points and 10 assists.

Camas will face No. 1 Union at 6 p.m. Thursday at Union High School for the district title and a berth to the 4A state tournament.

Evergreen will play Battle Ground in loser-out game Thursday.

“It means the world,” Jasinsky said. “From our sophomore year, to my junior year, to senior year, every year we improved. We’re a family. We play as a team.”

Jasinsky had nine of his points in a first quarter that got the Camas crazies into it, the student section loving every second. Jasinsky’s steal and dunk put the home crown into a frenzy. Jasinsky, Andre De Los Rios, and Jordan Anderson combined for four 3-pointers in the period.

The Plainsmen showed some signs in the second half but never recovered from being behind 23-6 after the first quarter.

Jasinsky finished 8 of 14 from the floor. Anderson scored 18 points for the Papermakers. Both players got plenty of points off of Hansel’s passes.

“That’s just amazing to me,” Hansel said when hearing he had a double-double in a playoff game. “It’s hard to put it in words. I’m young. I’m still learning from these guys.”

He described it as an incredible experience.

Hansel also tried to deflect any of the attention headed his way, noting that this was just Camas’ strategy against an aggressive Evergreen defense. The coaching staff, he said, noticed there were gaps to be taken advantage of in the passing game. Hansel then delivered.

Jasinsky had 15 of his points by halftime, with Camas up 16.

Tyrus Hosley kept the Plainsmen within shouting distance. He had 15 of his 23 points in the second half.

Evergreen got it down to an 11-point deficit twice in the fourth quarter, but Anderson and Jasinsky had 3-pointers to answer the Plainsmen.

Robert Franks filled the stat book as usual for Evergreen. He finished with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting, 14 rebounds, and five blocked shots.

This was Camas’ night, though.

“I came out and played my hardest for the team,” Jasinsky said. “We were all pumped up. We were ready for this. We’re ready for (Thursday). We’re ready for anything. If we go together, we stand a fighting chance against anybody.”
