A fire in a La Center two-story outbuilding was most likely caused by careless smoking, according to Clark County Deputy Fire Marshal Curtis Eavenson.

Crews from Clark County Fire & Rescue were called to 1524 W. C Ave. at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning to find a detached garage engulfed in flames. The second story of the building was being used as a recreation room.

Firefighters knocked the blaze down in about 10 minutes, preventing it from spreading to a nearby home.

The fire caused an estimated $75,000 in damage to the structure and its contents, Eavenson said.
