Three local swimmers seek titles

Kasey Calwell, Chris Xue and Dylan Osborne lead a local group of swimmers looking to make a splash at the state swimming championships this weekend in Federal Way.

All three swimmers are top-seeded in events this weekend at the King County Aquatic Center.

Calwell, from Camas, is seeded No. 1 in the 100 breaststroke in the Class 4A meet. The UC Santa Barbara commit is also the No. 2 seeded swimmer in the 200 individual medley.

Xue, from Mountain View, is top-seeded in the 50 freestyle, and he’s the No. 6 seed in the 100 freestyle.

Other local contenders to reach the finals at the 4A meet include Camas’ Mark Kim (200 freestyle and 500 freestyle) and Lucas Ulmer (100 butterfly), Skyview’s Jake Breuer (200 individual medley) and Camas’ 200 medley relay and 200 free relay.

In the 2A meet, Osborne, from Hockinson, is the top-seeded swimmer in the 100 butterfly. He’s also seeded No. 4 in the 50 freestyle.

Other highly seeded locals in the 2A meet include Jonah Rodewald (100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley) as well as Hockinson’s 400 free relay.

Columbia River’s Josh Bottelberghe is the highest-seeded local swimmer in the 3A meet, where he’s the No. 4 seed in the 100 breaststroke.
