A woman was seriously injured in a traffic crash Thursday on state Highway 502, west of Battle Ground.

As a westbound car turned left to merge onto the northbound lanes of Interstate 5, the car’s passenger side was struck broadside by an oncoming pickup, said Washington State Patrol Trooper Will Finn. The crash was reported at 7:26 p.m.

The woman was injured and trapped inside the car. An off-duty trauma nurse who works at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center stopped to help the woman before emergency responders arrived, Finn said.

Firefighters with Clark County Fire & Rescue had to cut the roof off of the car to quickly and safely get to the woman, said Battalion Chief Tim Dawdy. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.

The drivers of the car and the pickup were not injured.

Emergency vehicles temporarily blocked the entrance to I-5 north.
