A man was taken for a mental health evaluation Friday after summoning police to what he said was the scene of a shooting in southeast Vancouver.

The man called 911 at about 9:20 p.m. and said someone had been shot inside a house in the 11300 block of Southeast 14th Circle, in the Ellsworth Springs neighborhood, according to dispatch logs and a bulletin from the Vancouver Police Department.

The man said the alleged shooter’s whereabouts were unknown, according to the bulletin said.

A large number of officers converged on the scene and attempted to contact anyone inside the house. After a few minutes, a woman came out and told officers that no one was shot or hurt inside her home, the bulletin said.

The woman gave police permission to search the house. They confirmed that no one was inside, and found no indications of gunfire.

During the investigation, police contacted the man who had called 911. The bulletin said it became clear to officers that the man “was displaying indications of having significant mental health issues.”

“There is no indication at this time of any criminal intent on behalf of the caller, and no charges are going to be pursued,” the bulletin said.
