Last year we wrote an in-depth story on fatal accidents involving motorcycles and mapped fatalities that occurred from 2003-2014.

The motorcyclist who died in a Saturday morning crash near Battle Ground was identified as a La Center man.

Charles Nichols, 72, died of multiple blunt-force injuries in the crash, according to the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Nichols was reportedly riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle south on Northeast 72nd Avenue at about 11:40 a.m. when a Honda sport-utility vehicle collided with him near 249th Way, Clark County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. K.C. Kasberg said.

Kasberg said the motorcyclist died at the scene. The driver of the Honda, Heather Will, 31, of Battle Ground, was not injured.

Sgt. Dennis Pritchard, who oversees the agency’s traffic investigations, said there is no indication that speed or alcohol played a role in the collision.

Detectives will continue their investigation, which will include a forensic analysis of the vehicles involved, he said. No citations have been issued pending the completion of the investigation, Pritchard said.
