Letter: Take advantage of power of our vote

We have a problem with voter turnout in America, especially among the young. I’d like to speak to my fellow young people for a moment in order to encourage them to vote and to participate in mainstream politics more actively.

I know it feels like none of the political parties or candidates really speak to us. I can’t argue that they do because I don’t feel like they do either. It feels like they don’t listen to us. It feels like there’s no point in voting if we’re not voting for someone that has our best interests at heart. What I propose is that we change that.

We have to make them listen to us. We have to make them speak for us. I believe that we can do that through large numbers at the voting booth. If we can prove to the candidates that we’re a demographic that votes and cares, that will force the candidates to start paying attention to the youth vote.

It doesn’t even matter who you vote for, the important thing is showing our numbers. This is how we can force them to start listening to us.
