SPOKANE — Washington State University has decided to preserve a century-old warehouse as part of its growing campus in Spokane.
The university had planned to demolish the six-story Jensen-Byrd building four years ago, but preservationists forced it to withdraw the demolition permit.
The Spokesman-Review reports WSU now plans to make the building the focal point of a new plaza and gathering place that also will serve as a gateway to the campus in downtown Spokane.
It will cost more than $55 million to refurbish the building.
