Fishing report 2/26

The Columbian
Published: February 26, 2015, 12:00am

Spring chinook fishing in the lower Columbia River begins in earnest starting Sunday, when waters upstream of Interstate 5 open for retention.

Fishing will be open for boaters upstream as far as Beacon Rock and up to Bonneville Dam for bank anglers.

Angling is scheduled to continue through April 10, although could close early or be extended depending on the catch.

Three Tuesdays — March 24, March 31 and April 7 — will be closed to allow for commercial fishing on the lower Columbia without a clash between the sport and net fleets.

As expected, the catch in February has been pretty much non-existent.
