PORTLAND — Homicide detectives from the Portland Police Bureau were called to the bank of the Willamette River after a the body of a man was seen under a drain pipe. This afternoon, a woman’s body was found south of the Steel Bridge.

Sgt. Pete Simpson says investigators have tentatively identified the 48-year-old man, but have not determined the cause of death. The body was found Thursday morning just north of the Burnside Bridge. According to Simpson, investigators think the man might have been inside the drain pipe and pushed out by rainwater. An autopsy will be done Friday.

According to the Portland Mercury, police found a second body, that of a woman, on the esplanade just south of the Steel Bridge around 3:30 pm. Police aren’t sure who she is or how she died.
