CHEHALIS – Post it up: The Skyview girls basketball team is going to the Tacoma Dome.

Riley Friauf hit one of two free throws with four seconds left to lift the Storm to a 54-53 win over Kentlake in the regional round of the Class 4A state girls basketball tournament on Saturday.

After Kentlake tied the game with a free throw with 13 seconds left, the Storm worked for the last shot. But as the ball was slapped away from Friauf by a Kentlake player, the defender was whistled for a foul, sending Friauf to the line.

The sophomore hit the first free throw and missed the second. Kentlake’s desperation shot at the buzzer was off the mark, sending Skyview to the Tacoma Dome.

“We focused all week on getting the ball to our bigs because that’s where we felt our strength was,” Skyview coach Jennifer Buscher said. “That’s where we were trying to get the ball on that last possession. But they called the foul. We got lucky.”

The Storm (20-3) went to their inside game against Kentlake.

Sydney Friauf scored 18 points and eight rebounds, and Ashlee Comastro added 10 and nine rebounds. The Storm outrebounded the Falcons 41-27.

Skyview stayed with its inside game even after Kentlake used an 8-2 run to take a 46-41 with 4:57 left in the game. Comastro then responded with eight consecutive points for the Storm, including making all four free-throw attempts.

“That’s why you practice those free throws,” Comastro said. “But it was really a team effort. Our guards did a great job of getting Sydney and me the ball in good position where we could use our size advantage. That’s what we talked about all week.”

The win sends the Storm back to the Tacoma Dome, where they placed sixth at state last season. They won’t learn their opponent until brackets are released Sunday.

“I got to go to the Dome last year,” Sydney Friauf said. “And I knew as soon as we left, that I wanted to get back there this year. So to finally get it done is the best feeling in the world. It’s so amazing.”
