A Ridgefield man was involved in a head-on collision that blocked all traffic on a portion of U.S. Highway 101 for seven hours Friday night in Oregon.
Traffic came to a halt around 6 p.m. at milepost 130.5, near Depoe Bay, Ore., when a semitrailer and a 1991 Mazda pickup truck crashed into each other. Stephen Johnson, a 57-year-old from Ridgefield, was behind the wheel of the semitrailer.
Johnson was not injured, and he cooperated with police at the scene. But the crash sent Raymond David, a 27-year-old from Otis, Ore., flying from his pickup.
Investigators say David was speeding and passing cars around turns in a no-passing zone when he lost control, began to fishtail into oncoming traffic and collided with the semitrailer. The 2009 Sterling tractor-trailer was full of frozen foods, police said.
