I’ve noticed over several years that in our national budget, we have money for everything, especially if it means more rewards for the rich. Many of us are rich in comparison to many in the country who live in poverty. Congress has voted huge supplemental budgets for the wars abroad, starting especially after President Bill Clinton managed to get us a balanced budget. Then came getting back at Afghanistan and Iraq.
President George W. Bush managed to get us Part D to help older people with their prescription medicine, yet many millions of our poorest citizens never saw help with their health until President Barack Obama and the Affordable Care Act. The past five years, the House voted more than 40 times to do away with the ACA, even though the House knew the Senate wouldn’t go along with it, and certainly if the Senate did, the President wouldn’t sign it. Why all this fuss over helping the neediest of our people? What have our neediest done to have such carelessness visited upon them?
