Clark County detectives are asking for the public’s help in the investigation into the death of a transient woman.

A boater on the Columbia River found the body of a woman, later identified as Jessica Danielle Newton, 40, washed up on the western shoreline of Bachelor’s Island near Ridgefield on Jan. 2.

Clark County Sheriff’s Office major crimes detectives identified Newton as a transient from Portland.

Investigators said that Newton may have been the victim of homicidal violence that occurred sometime during the later weeks of December, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office reports that the autopsy is pending completion while the agency waits for toxicology reports.

Anyone who has information about the incident or is able to provide information on Newton’s whereabouts in December is asked to call Det. Fred Neiman Jr. at 360-397-2120.
