Letter: Approve bond to support schools

I am writing to support the Hockinson School District’s Proposition 1 bond measure on Feb. 10. As a parent and volunteer, I am proud of our growing school district. This bond continues our investment in our students and schools.

Our students will have a new middle school that meets modern safety standards and provides important new academic space for science and technology labs. At our high school, this bond would give students new academic and extracurricular space, including a band room, wrestling room, a baseball field, two soccer fields, and tennis courts. This bond also adds public restrooms, seating and security upgrades to the high school’s main sports field to support our highly attended sports events. Finally, the bond would develop a plan to improve the elementary school, which is needed to address the complex challenges of the elementary school campus (safety needs, layout, drop-off/pick-up issues), while also pursuing state matching funds.

We can do all this while actually reducing our combined tax rate from the 2014 level. The students are our future. I hope our community will support our kids and our schools. I urge voters to approve Proposition 1.
