Well, it looks like my weekly column is going to be overshadowed by some football game.

A football game!? But the high school winter sports season is winding down.

Oh well, we’ll keep things brief this week by taking a quick look at some notable prep events on this week’s schedule.

Basketball

4A GSHL: The first half of league play concludes on Tuesday. That means when league play resumes on Friday, the boys and girls will flip start times for league doubleheaders. The boys games will be first on Friday and for the rest of the league season.

In the boys standings, Union has already completed a perfect first half of the season. Battle Ground plays at Evergreen in a battle to at least remain in a tie for second.

On the girls side, Camas looks to complete a perfect first half with a win at Mountain View.

3A GSHL: The first half of the abbreviated six-game league schedule ends Tuesday. In girls plays, Columbia River and Kelso took their best shots at Prairie last week. On Tuesday, they’ll take shots at each other when they meet at River.

2A GSHL: The league begins the second half of its league season on Tuesday. On Thursday, the Woodland girls get their second shot at knocking off top-ranked Mark Morris when the teams meet in Longview.

1A TRICO: A big week for the Kalama boys. Because of an earlier rescheduled game, the Chinooks will face La Center on Tuesday. Then first-place King’s Way Christian looks to avenge its only league loss when the Knights host Kalama on Friday.

Wrestling

Heritage hosts the Heritage Duals on Saturday with Hockinson, La Center and Prairie being joined by four other teams.

Mountain View and Evergreen will compete in the South Kitsap Tournament, while Camas and Columbia River head to the End of Days Tournament at Lakes High School.

Girls bowling

The regular season concludes with matches on Tuesday and Friday this week. Battle Ground looks to complete an 18-0 season with wins over Union and Heritage.
