SEATTLE — At least six people have been arrested and a Seattle police officer suffered a leg injury as protesters chanting “black lives matter” disrupted traffic in Seattle, blocking part of a state highway and interstate offramps.

Seattle police spokesman Patrick Michaud told KOMO the officer may have suffered a broken leg and it was related to the protests, but didn’t give further details.

Transportation officials advised people to take alternate routes Monday afternoon as dozens of people blocked the northbound lanes of State Route 99 near Seattle Center. Traffic on the northbound and southbound offramps to Mercer Street was also impacted as protesters marched to that area in the South Lake Union neighborhood.

Police moved to clear protesters from the roadways, and by about 4:30 p.m. both State Route 99 and the interstate offramps were opened to traffic.

Organizers said they were engaging in “civil disobedience” to protest police violence.
