Letter: Vancouver’s weird, too

The Columbian

Vancouver’s weird, too

What is that endearing slogan from across the river? “Keep Portland Weird.”

Well, Vancouver isn’t far behind.

We have The Columbian berating President Barack Obama for continuing to be out of touch while also having a reader berate the editors for being Obama supporters.

We have the local Republican Party berating Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, for moderate thinking and voting while forgetting that she replaced a progressive Democrat.

We have our Clark County councilors staging a “sit in” at a C-Tran board meeting after partly being kicked off the board due to some behind-the-scenes maneuvering.

We have our county commissioners/councilors hiring cronies with some behind-the-scenes maneuvering.

We have a Columbian reader calling for neighbors to get a bounty for reporting another neighbor who discharges fireworks while seemingly forgetting that the concept was a mainstay of the Communist Party.

We have a supposedly binding contract for a huge Vancouver oil terminal signed, with behind-the-scenes maneuvering by Port of Vancouver Commissioners who live in the area.

Finally, the fate of that terminal will be decided, most likely behind-the-scenes, by a governor who seems to love only the Seattle area while the state’s trust funds are heavily invested in oil stocks.

Weird enough for ya?
