Optional routine competitions (Levels 7-10) are scheduled for Saturday and compulsory levels will compete on Sunday.

Girl heads to national soccer camp

Alyssa Olson of Vancouver was selected to participate in a U.S. Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program Girls National Training Camp. The camp runs Thursday through Jan. 27 in Sanford, Fla.

A midfielder, Olson was one of 19 girls born in 2001 who were selected to represent the Far West Region at the national training camp. Olson attended a regional training camp in August and learned on Christmas Day that she had been selected for the national camp.

“I didn’t expect to make it that far,” she said.

A Frontier Middle School eighth grader, Olson plays club soccer for F.C. Salmon Creek. She said she is excited to experience an elite-level training camp.

“It’s definitely a good thing to put on a college application and it’s going to show me what the competition is like around the country,” she said.
