EUGENE, Ore. — There have been no new reports of University of Oregon students becoming ill with a bacterial infection that causes meningitis.
But a Lane County Public Health official tells The Register-Guard the agency and the health center on campus are prepared to see students who may need to be tested for the potentially life-threatening bloodstream infection, called meningococcemia.
Meanwhile, the student who was taken to a hospital last week is stable — no better, no worse.
The university and Lane County Public Health notified 800 people who may have had contact with her. If they have an unexplained fever, headache or neck pain, they are advised to seek medical attention immediately.
