Letter: ‘Man of God’ cloaked in prejudice

Thanks for the Jan. 15 Opinion page cartoon illustrating Pat Robertson and “The 700 Club.” I have wondered for years how this so-called man of God stays on the air. I don’t follow him but do hear clips from his show, for example:

He chided Michelle Obama for texting to the site #bringbackourgirls, claiming that it was a do-nothing action since terrorists aren’t sophisticated enough to use the Internet. Terrorist groups are very tech-savvy; it’s one of their recruiting tools.

He told a mother who wrote about her son’s stomach pains to pray; didn’t bother to mention medicine or seeing a doctor.

He claimed to witness a miracle of an amputee having his arm grow back. Just happened to be deep in the middle of Africa and told his audience it’s not possible for them to get to the village where the man lives — only Pat can get there.

He said homosexuals will soon become extinct since they can’t reproduce, raising two questions: If they are on the way to extinction, what’s the point of still being biased against them, and where did they all come from?

We keep being told radicals have hijacked Islam. What about Robertson hijacking Christianity? Yet he keeps asking for those “donations.” It’s prophet, Pat, not profit.
