Battle Ground — At a recent Columbia River Division Competition Jan. 10 at Bethel High School in Spanaway, the Prairie and Battle Ground high schools’ Air Force Junior ROTC squads won multiple team and individual awards. Prairie High School color guard scored a first-place finish in their competition. Individually, Prairie’s Taylor Harper and Andrew Friason, both from the armed team, finished first in their events. Kenny Wilson and JM Smithline finished first in the armed duals competition, while Adriana Roncarati and Tara Guinn scored the top spot in the unarmed duals contest. Chloe Nielson came in first in the marksmanship competition. Battle Ground High School scored a victory in the unarmed drill team competition, as did the school’s air rifle team. Individually, Cmdr. Sidney Bodin finished first in the unarmed event, and Caspar Schadler scored a first-place finish in the individual air rifle precision competition. Battle Ground’s air rifle team is undefeated and will compete in the Air Rifle National Championships on Feb. 18-22 in Phoenix.
