The Class 3A Chieftains couldn’t keep up with one of the state’s best 2A teams.

W.F. West outscored the host Chieftains 17-4 in the second quarter to break open Friday’s nonleague game. The Bearcats from Chehalis are 12-1 and No. 2 in the latest Associated Press 2A poll.

River (12-4) was outrebounded 30-17.

“We were outmatched,” River coach Carl Click said. “We tried some things on defense that worked better in the second half, but we could never match their height.”
