PORTLAND — A Washington County sheriff’s spokesman says an 80-year-old Coos Bay woman was struck in a crosswalk and fatally injured as she left a Portland-area hospital after visiting her husband.

Sgt. Bob Ray says Betty Sandra Glassman and her 54-year-old daughter from Berkeley, California, had just left Providence St. Vincent Medical Center on foot on Thursday night after visiting the older woman’s husband. The daughter, Sherry Glassman-Beebe, suffered minor injuries.

Ray says the driver, 66-year-old John Lawson of Aloha, cooperated with investigators.

Investigators determined that Lawson was likely turning on a green light and failed to see the women who were crossing on a green crosswalk light. He was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian.
