Letter: Act against climate change

The Columbian
Published: January 24, 2015, 4:00pm

When I was young and wrestling with a decision about which of two courses of action to take, a wise person gave me some very good advice: “Before you make your final decision ask yourself, ‘What is the worst thing that can happen if you are wrong with either choice?’ ”

As a species, humanity is faced with a momentous decision and time may be running out. Continue using fossil fuels or take comprehensive action to move to renewable sources of energy. If we choose the renewable source path and are wrong, the worst thing that will happen is that companies which have become dominant in our economy will, in about 40 years, be substantially reduced because of being replaced by new and equally profitable companies. If we choose to continue burning fossil fuels and it is causing climate change as 97 percent of climate scientists believe it is, there may be no human life left on earth in another 100 years or less.

I urge you to go to arctic-news.blogspot.com, read what qualified scientists are observing and concluding, then ask yourself the questions, act accordingly and ask your political representatives to do the same.
