High school friends donate quilts to Babies In Need

Battle Ground — Four women from Battle Ground recently donated 34 quilts to Babies In Need, a nonprofit that helps mothers provide for their newborns.

Judy Stillman, Ruth Walz and Pam Claflin, friends since high school who still live in the area, and Carol Achatz, a friend who now lives outside of Olympia, spent seven-plus months working together on the quilts. Claflin said the women all have grandchildren and wanted to get involved with the agency after hearing about the families Babies In Need works with.

“There’s a lot of need in the county,” Claflin said. “Anybody can do something like this and help out if they have some time.”

The group of women also received a bit of help, as all the fabric they used was donated. Claflin said they received donations from friends, as well as from A Quilt Forever in Hazel Dell.

They also used their own scraps, as well as fabric found at garage sales that was then donated.
