Letter: County councilors create circus

Why do the county councilors care about losing a seat on the C-Tran board? Two of them don’t seem to even care whether C-Tran exists or not. Councilor David Madore has indicated that he really has no interest in C-Tran (“In Our View: Send Out The Clowns — Clark County councilors turned C-Tran board meeting into a circus,” Jan. 18). Councilor Jeanne Stewart does support the bus system even though she doesn’t support light rail. Given the interest of the councilors, I think the board would do better with just one member from the county. We need people, such as Jeanne Stewart, on the board that actually support C-Tran.

Maybe what the board needs to do next is to develop a way to discipline those members that make a mockery of the board. Members have the right to disagree with each other but they should do so in a respectful manner. Having two jokers from the county disrupt the board meetings for their own entertainment is counter-productive. The board’s responsibilities for maintaining, improving, and expanding our transit system are too important to those of us that use it to allow this “circus” to continue.
