I am 53, disabled, on a fixed income, and have never owned a home. I’m now losing my mother’s home, due to misguided reverse b.s. As the pressure mounts to be out, I am finding so much misguided and false information on resale homes. You cannot Google rental homes without being bombarded with false promises. “Bad credit, no problem.” Well, it is a problem. I am swamped with overwhelming medical debt. When I apply all I get is, we must rebuild your credit first, with money, of course.
I’ve been at this for six months and am no closer to getting in a rental as when I started. Rental agencies drive up rent by adding $200 or more to the rent, then paying rent for your pet. The money required to get into a rental is the same amount as a down payment on a home. Trying to just get to people who are straight-out landlords is frustrating, also. Vancouver is a hard place to find rentals, when all the info on rentals is misleading. It’s no wonder people are homeless and I may be, too.
