Marshall nominations deadline is Friday

Friday is the nomination deadline for the annual Marshall adult and youth leadership awards.

Presented by the Fort Vancouver National Trust, the program honors Gen. George C. Marshall, who commanded the 5th Infantry Brigade at Vancouver Barracks from 1936 to 1938. He was Army chief of staff during World War II.

A nominee for the adult Marshall Public Leadership Award must be a resident of Clark County, 35 or younger, with a four-year college degree. Criteria include leadership ability, commitment to public service, academic achievement and potential for an active role in public service. The award includes $2,200 toward a trip to the Marshall Foundation in Lexington, Va., Colonial Williamsburg, Va., and Washington, D.C.; opportunities to work with community leaders; and a scholarship for Leadership Clark County.

Marshall Youth Leadership nominees must be county residents in the 12th grade. Criteria include activities and projects demonstrating the Marshall’s values. The award includes a $2,500 college scholarship; a $500 summer internship in the Trust’s Celebrate Freedom office; a chance to meet local elected officials; and a chance to take part in Celebrate Freedom events.
