WENATCHEE, Wash. — The city of Wenatchee and Chelan County have banned all fireworks, including legal ones, in the wake of this week’s destructive Sleepy Hollow Fire.

In a proclamation issued Wednesday, the mayor of Wenatchee declared a state of emergency and said private use of fireworks is banned in the city through the Fourth of July holiday.

The county earlier instituted a ban in unincorporated areas due to the extreme fire conditions.

Public displays of fireworks will still be allowed in this central Washington city.
