DAYVILLE, Ore. — Firefighters in central Oregon are fighting a large fire on the west side of the South Fork John Day River, about 11 miles south of Dayville.
The Oregon Department of Forestry said on Friday that the Corner Creek Fire grew by 7,000 acres overnight to about 19,000 acres and is zero percent contained.
Officials said fire conditions are extremely challenging with very high temperatures and low relative humidity coupled with winds gusting to 25 mph.
Firefighters are working to protect structures, extinguish spot fires, and establish control lines for the fire.
A forest closure has been issued for part of the Ochoco National Forest near the fire, including the Black Canyon Wilderness. Mud Springs and Frazier campgrounds are closed to the public. Several roads in the area are also closed.
