Letter: It’s shameful hate is so prevalent

American society has to do some major soul searching after the horrible massacre in Charleston, S.C., a state that proudly flies the Confederate flag over their state capital. Will it come down anytime soon? Let’s hope so. It is a symbol of hate, racism, slavery and discrimination.

A large sector of this country have been raised shamefully to hate anyone of color. That includes immigrants, including and especially Hispanics.

Donald Trump is a good example. The presidential candidate now polls second with Republican primary voters. That says a lot about their feelings. Again, it’s shameful.

They hate the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, using the Bible as their excuse. Does the Bible teach hatred and discrimination? No.

The majority of the world’s Muslims are peaceful and hate the violent jihadists who shame their religion, but we as a nation hate them all.

We even hate poor people, begrudging the use of tax dollars to help them feed their children.

Enough. All of this is shameful and, as an American, embarrassing. Will we, as country, grow up any time soon? Again, don’t bet on it.

Not all Americans, thank God, are like this, but there are enough people in this country who hate and discriminate, and that stains us all. We need to let our neighbors and politicians know that we have had enough, and we won’t stand for this any more.
