Weather Eye: We’ve had quite a run of 90-degree days, and it isn’t over yet

It was a hot Fourth of July along with the fireworks. Maybe I should have said sweltering instead of hot. I mean, when will this crazy weather end? Some computer models indicate a cool-down by next weekend down into the 70s and low 80s for a while. I’m sure by now everyone could use a few cool days.

If it happens, it probably won’t last that long as all indications point toward a hot, dry summer. Waters in the eastern Pacific are 3 to 6 degrees above average due to a moderate El Niño. There is speculation that could turn into a strong El Niño by wintertime.

The weather pattern is somewhat complex as weather systems go, so minor wiggles are at play.

A weak front allowed some cooling on the Fourth (did you feel those few degrees?).

Temperatures go back up today and then decrease to the 90-degree mark by Thursday. What a run of 90-degree highs, don’t you think? We will have our usual average days of 90 degrees in for a year, and we still have long way to go. Many more on the horizon, I bet.

June rainfall reports from your friends and neighbors around the area are arriving in my inbox, and I’ll share the highlights soon.

Goodness, I can hardly remember when was the last bit it did rain. I guess that’s because it was more than a month ago.

Our faithful weather observer from the Orchards area, Jim Knoll is surely enjoying this hot weather. With his June rainfall report he said, “I’m going to enjoy all the sunshine and warm weather because this doesn’t happen here like this more than once in a lifetime. I just hope next winter the snows return to the mountains, Enjoy it while we have it.”
