Clark County — Major road work will begin Thursday to rebuild a damaged portion of Northeast Sunset Falls Road, potentially creating half-hour delays, according to a Clark County news release.

Battle Ground-based contractor Tapani Inc. will begin ripping out the degraded surface and pouring cement along the 5.5-mile stretch from Northeast Dole Valley Road east to the Sunset Campground and the Skamania County border, according to the release. The road has been damaged by freezing conditions and heavy trucks.

One lane will remain open for vehicles, according to the release. Drivers must wait for a pilot car and follow it through the construction zone. Residents in the area, meanwhile, could experience longer delays.

Construction on the $3.1 million project, 90 percent of which will be funded by federal grants, is expected to be completed later this summer.
