A man accused of driving drunk and crashing into a house in Washougal early Thursday morning made a first appearance in Clark County Superior Court on Monday.

Joshua Q. Walker, 21, of Washougal appeared on suspicion of attempt to elude, driving under the influence, reckless driving and hit and run.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Superior Court, Washougal police observed a vehicle driving in a reckless manner and speeding through the city. An officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but it continued. The driver subsequently lost control when it went over a railroad crossing. The car became airborne and struck a residence, where a child was sleeping in the front room.

The driver, identified as Walker, told police he had consumed alcohol prior to driving, court records said. He allegedly failed a breath test.

During his hearing on Monday, Judge Robert Lewis said Walker does not qualify for a court-appointed attorney. He must hire his own.

His bail was set at $25,000. He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday.
