Police warn of IRS phishing scam calls

People around the country are getting scam calls from what appears to be a Ridgefield-area cellphone number. The caller, using the number 360-727-7885, has been telling people the Internal Revenue Service is going to sue if they don’t pay their taxes.

“We have no idea if (the caller) lives here or not,” said Ridgefield Police Department Chief Carrie Greene.

Victims have looked up the number and then called the police department to report the scam. People who have called 360-727-7885 back got someone who sounded foreign, Greene said.

Anyone who gets a call from this number should give the caller no information and should hang up immediately. Suspected scam calls from people claiming to be with the IRS can be reported at www.irs.gov/uac/Report-Phishing.
