PORTER — Authorities say a 14-year-old swimming with friends in the Chehalis River on Monday evening near Porter disappeared underwater and drowned.

Battalion Chief Adam Fullbright with Grays Harbor County Fire District 5 told KBKW Radio it took searchers five hours to find the boy’s body after multiple agencies responded to a 911 call for help from the boy’s family.

Grays Harbor County Coroner Lane Youmans says the family witnessed the drowning so no autopsy will be performed.
