PORTLAND — Health officials are investigating after an outbreak of norovirus at a Portland hospital sickened more than 30 people working in the pediatric intensive-care unit.
The Oregonian reports that no patients were sickened at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, but a number of nurses, doctors and staff members fell ill.
Oregon Health & Science University Medical Director of Infection Prevention and Control says as soon as they became aware of the norovirus hospital staff took measures to prevent additional illnesses.
The first illness popped up June 5. About 15 cases continued until June 15, when someone mentioned at an administrative meeting that several staff members in the intensive-care unit had stayed home with vomiting and diarrhea. At that point the hospital was deep cleaned. The last case was identified June 25.
